Supporting Families & Food Security
Deer Ridge proudly serves as a host site for the Des Moines Public Schools Summer Breakfast and Lunch Program, helping ensure children have access to nutritious meals when school is not in session. Residents also benefit from free fresh vegetables every Monday, an on-site community garden, and access to a clothing and food closet available year-round.
Access to Transportation & Essential Services
Residents receive a free DART bus pass, making it easier to commute to work, attend school, access healthcare, and participate in community life. To further reduce barriers, WIC services are hosted on site monthly, allowing families to enroll and receive support without needing to travel.
Education, Empowerment & Resident Support
Deer Ridge offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes every Thursday evening, helping residents build communication skills and confidence.
An integral part of our community is our on-site Support Service Coordinator, who provides individualized assistance and guidance. The coordinator helps residents connect to off-site resources through trusted referrals and offers hands-on support with:

Safety & Community Partnerships
Deer Ridge participates in the Crime Free Program in partnership with the Des Moines Police Department, promoting a safe, respectful living environment and strengthening trust within the community.
During the holiday season, Deer Ridge also partners with the Des Moines Police Department for Holidays with Heroes, providing gifts and support to children and families. We further support families through participation in Toys for Tots, helping ensure every child has something special to celebrate.
